How BestChili Reviews Products

Paul Coleman, Founder & Editor-in-Chief
This page lays out how BestChili — every guide, ingredient breakdown, and gear pick — comes together, and the lens I bring to it after a decade in the chili world.

What this site does

BestChili is where I turn my decade of tracking the chili category into practical guidance for home cooks. I've watched the chili world grow from commodity spice racks to single-origin peppers and competition-grade cookware, and I want you to benefit from that sweep. This site exists to close the gap between what serious cooks want and what most guides cover — by reading every spec, weighing every review, and applying the standards I developed on the sales floor and in my own kitchen. It's an editorial operation, built on criteria, not hype.

How we evaluate

  • We read spec sheets and user reviews, across every tier, to see what actually performs.
  • We weigh price against capability — where spending more buys real improvement.
  • We consider how each product fits a range of cookers, from first-timers to seasoned.
  • We look for the details that matter on the stovetop, not just on a spec sheet.
  • We prioritize versatility and repeatability — gear that earns its shelf space.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on BestChili are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy through them. This never affects our recommendations — it simply helps keep the site running and our research independent.
